After years of watching and experiencing many family members and friends die young and experiencing personal illness myself, I found myself at the point of needing answers to many questions I had. Unfortunately, what I saw happen all around me was not lining up with the love of God that I saw in the Bible.
I had questions like: "God, is it Your will that people suffer and die young from horrible illnesses? Is modern-day medicine all we have to fight back with because that doesn't work too well in many cases? Is there any way out of this life of sickness and pain, or do we have to take whatever comes at us? Is there healing if doctors say there is no cure? Am I missing something? If I am, show me.
I had a lot of questions, and I needed answers now – not when I get to heaven someday – I needed to know NOW! Matthew 7:7 says, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you." So I sought God. "God, if there is a better way – if there is ANY way out of this sickness and other things that come against us – show me in Your Word. I need You to teach me.
This was the beginning of my healing journey. Over the next several years, I studied everything God showed me regarding healing and faith in His Word. He showed me that healing was part of the atonement that Christ paid for at Calvary. (Is. 53:4, 5; Mat. 8:16,17; 1 Peter 2:24). He showed me that it is His will for us to be healed. (111 John 2; Acts 10:38; Psalm 103:2, 3, and many more.) This is not a mainstream doctrine taught in our churches today, but it is one of the reasons that so few people operate in divine healing.
I am now on the other side of my healing journey. God has answered my questions. He had much patience with me, and because of that, I received healing from Him.
After experiencing the power of God manifest in me, I passionately desired to share the truths that I had learned from God with others who needed physical healing. I saw others also receive just by learning the same truths that God had shared with me. This birthed the vision in me and my husband to establish a church in our Lehigh Valley area where the truth of God's Word regarding healing and walking in the victory that Jesus already bought and paid for us would be taught on a regular basis.
Almost immediately, we met others who shared this same vision, and together we sought God's direction. We met an anointed teacher of God's Word, Pastor John Essy, a graduate from Andrew Wommack's Colorado Bible College, who shared the same passion for teaching others how to walk in God's supernatural victory. He began teaching at our monthly meetings that started in the fall of 2007. Eventually, God led us to meet each week as we saw a hunger for this kind of teaching in our area. In the spring of 2009, we became incorporated as Word of Life Church, ministering the uncompromising truth of God's love, mercy, grace, and healing.
While not a traditional church, our ministry is primarily a teaching ministry -- teaching believers how to walk in the divine nature that God has already intended and provided for us. Pastor John acts as our overseer as we step out and teach God's truths to equip each believer to walk in victory.
